Start with the actual food
Protein bars, fruit-and-nut bars and energy bars are not the same product, even when displayed in a shared directory category. Our bar category includes different formats; the product-type label explains which one you are looking at. Meat snacks also differ between dried jerky, bars and fully cooked sticks.
Read beyond the protein headline
Compare serving size, ingredients, sodium and added sugars on the exact product label. Egg whites, nuts, dairy or soy may appear in bars; meat snacks do not meet vegetarian diets. A nutrition number printed for one flavor should not be applied to every product from that brand.
Storage is part of the comparison
Follow the package’s directions before and after opening. Shelf-stable before opening does not mean an opened multi-serving bag can remain in a warm backpack indefinitely. Single portions and resealable bags meet different needs; choose deliberately.
